Oxford Writing Courses offers bespoke courses for schools across the UK. Our fiction courses are perfect for students who already have a keen interest in creative writing, or students who are struggling with their current English curriculum who might spark a passion for writing through our workshops and thrive as storytellers.

One-off classes
In our one-off classes we offer intense programmes on one or two elements of storytelling; for example, characterisation, setting, dialogue, or plot. Teachers might want to specify a particular element students are struggling with, or something that might be relevant to the current English Language or Literature curriculum.
Lunchtime and After School Courses
Students will develop their plot idea over the course of six weeks, covering all of the storytelling techniques needed to write a compelling story. We will also cover how to structure and plan a novel — as well plot outlines, how to manage time as a writer, and how to take those next steps into publication.
Half-day classes
In half-day classes, students will study characterisation and setting; looking at what makes a good protagonist and how strong characters can move the plot forwards. We will also talk through character arcs and what it means to be a writer of stories.
